In the spirit of giving—and in the spirit of delicious treats—the Bay Adelaide Centre (just across the street from Trump International Hotel & Tower Toronto®) hosted the Sugar & Spice showcase last week with a delectable visual display featuring creations from pastry chefs across the city, including Bonnie Gordon Cakes, Bobbette and Belle, Encore Catering, as well as Trump® Toronto’s own Executive Pastry Chef David Chow.
The special event was a fundraising initiative for Nellie’s Women’s Shelter, and featured a wide array of custom holiday sculptures, from traditional gingerbread houses to cupcake creations, which were all on display from December 10th until December 14th. Nellie’s Shelter operates programs and services for women and children who experience oppression such as violence, poverty and homelessness.
For those who came to wonder at the beautiful sculptures, they had the opportunity to enter a holiday prize draw, with a chance to take one of the celebrated creations home. Second Cup was also selling gingerbread cookies and gingerbread lattes for $10 donations towards Nellie’s.
David Chow worked with his expert team in the Chocolate Lab at STOCK™ Restaurant Bar & Lounge, creating their sculpture in between plating desserts and prepping for lavish parties at Trump® Toronto.
The sculpture Chow built depicts a whimsical re-imagining of the Chocolate Lab, as inhabited by busy penguins creating holiday sweets. One penguin holds up a list detailing some of Chow’s favourite ingredients (peanut and caramel), while another penguin pilots his own little rowboat towards STOCK™ at Trump® Toronto. There’s penguins in pots, penguins fishing and penguins lined up in a row on the roof! The sculpture also makes ample use of Valrhona chocolate, which is an essential part of nearly everything produced at the Chocolate Lab at STOCK™.
The Chocolate Lab at STOCK™ is a rare facility of its kind in Canada, created with a unique vision in mind by owner Inna Levitan and executed by David Chow.
